Having given a few talks in the last couple of months, I have come to realise how much I enjoy being able to inspire people to go visit Iran on one level and hopefully change their perceptions but also how on another level my story and journey seem to resonate with many people from whatever background. We all have dreams and passions, maybe we haven't found them yet but life is all about living your dream and in that journey we face many battles and obstacles and we sometimes do not have the courage to face up to them or we are often scared of pushing boundaries and taking risks.

Shirin Shabestari spent her childhood growing up in Iran. In an often restrictive country, she would explore the mountains to find her sense of freedom. This experience would come to shape her future as she dreamt of bigger adventures.
Today Shirin lives in London with her family and in this talk she will explain just how climbing changed her life when growing up and how its impact is still being felt now that she has her own children. Shirin's passion for the mountains and Iran is now very much part of her life and she has run three expeditions to explore the country's peaks. During the talk, Shirin will show Damavand - An Iranian Dream, a 15 minute film covering her expedition of Iran's highest mountain. She will also be offering advice for climbing in remote and volatile areas such as Iran including travel info, safety and security, and restrictions.

Now showing a world first beforehand. A 30min edit of the AMAZING film by Karen Darke called Impossible from Polished Project.
IMPOSSIBLE examines how we psychologically tackle apparently insurmountable challenges through the eyes of some of Britain's most renowned adventurers and athletes. Karen Darke provides the backdrop to the film as she tackles an Ironman challenge alongside Guinness record-breaking Spanish athlete Jose Manuel for his 90th ironman in a year.
This is punctuated with interviews and insights about motivation and the resilience to keep going towards far-reaching goals, with the world's greatest living explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, multiple World Ironman Champion Chrissie Wellington, founder of Climbers Against Cancer, John Ellison and renown sports psychiatrist Prof Steve Peters, author of the best-selling book, The Chimp Paradox.
